The God Jesus Came to Reveal

3 Reflections

  1. Jesus is the clearest revelation of who God is. John says the Son has come to “make Him known.” The Greek word, exegeomai (where we get the word exegete) carries the idea of explaining, interpreting, and unfolding something previously hidden. Jesus did not come to offer one more perspective on God. He came as the perfect revelation of God. Everything we believe about the nature and character of God must ultimately be interpreted through Jesus.

  2. The glimpses became clear when the Son arrived. Throughout the Old Testament, men and women encountered God in real and powerful ways. Abraham knew Him as God Almighty. Moses knew Him as Yahweh. The prophets saw visions of His glory. But each revelation was partial—a true glimpse awaiting the fullness that would come in Christ. Only Jesus could say, “He who has seen Me has seen the Father.”

  3. The God Jesus revealed is Father. Jesus spoke of God as Father with an intimacy Israel had never known. He did more than introduce another name for God; He revealed the relationship He had eternally shared with Him. The Son came from the Father’s side to bring us into the knowledge of the Father’s heart. And through union with Christ, His Father has become our Father, and the Spirit now teaches us to cry, “Abba, Father.”

1 Action

Pay attention to:

the picture of God you carry through your week.

Is it shaped by fear, tradition, religious assumptions — or the face of Jesus?

Take a few minutes this week to read one of the Gospels slowly. Watch the way Jesus responds to the weak, the ashamed, the grieving, and the overlooked. Then remind yourself: this is what the Father is like.

Ask the Holy Spirit to replace every distorted picture of God with the Father Jesus came to reveal.

Grace and peace,

NEIL
