Surrender

3 Reflections

  1. Surrender begins when you stop treating your life as your own.
Paul writes, “You are not your own…you were bought at a price.” A surrendered life recognizes that everything belongs to God: your time, your body, your plans, your relationships, and your future. Surrender is not inviting God into the life you have already designed. It’s placing the whole thing on the altar and saying, “All of this is Yours.”

  2. Surrender is usually revealed in the ordinary decisions of the day.
We tend to imagine surrender as one dramatic moment at church or the conference. But most surrender is more hidden than that: simply choosing to live the Jesus way day in and day out. A surrendered life is built through a thousand small yeses. Every act of obedience declares you belong to God now, not yourself.

  3. Surrender means choosing the way of Jesus over the way that comes naturally. The way of Jesus often runs against our instincts. He teaches us to forgive instead of retaliate, serve instead of demand, give instead of grasp, and lay down our lives instead of protecting ourselves at all costs. A surrendered life allows the words, character, and example of Jesus to shape how you respond to the people and pressures in front of you.

"He began with absolute surrender of His life for us. He can ask nothing less from us.” - Andrew Murray

    2 Scriptures

    • "Then He said to them all, ‘If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.’”

      Luke 9:23

    • “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God.”

      Romans 12:1

    1 Action

    Ask yourself:

Where am I still insisting on my own way?

Pay attention to the areas where obedience feels like it costs too much. It may be forgiving someone, releasing control of an outcome, changing how you spend your time, having a difficult conversation, or walking away from something that no longer reflects the way of Jesus.

Then ask, “How would Jesus handle this situation?” Take the next clear step of obedience in front of you.

Surrender becomes a way of life every time you choose His way over your own.

Grace and peace,

NEIL
