Loved At Your Worst

The cross was God’s response to our rebellion. Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Before we ever realized we needed a Savior, Christ died for us. His love was revealed at our worst, not our best.
God doesn’t love like we love. His love has no conditions. The cross is God’s stake in the ground showing how otherworldly His love is. We love the things that are lovable. But God gave Himself when we were enemies (Romans 5:10), proving His love is not a reaction to our goodness, but a revelation of His.
The cross settles the question of how God feels about you. The enemy is always trying to put God’s love back on trial, especially when life gets hard or you stumble. But Romans 5:8 destroys the accusation. God has already demonstrated His love in the death of His Son. The cross is the clearest revelation of who He is and how far He was willing to go for love.

This week, let Romans 5:8 confront the part of you that still believes God is waiting for a better version of you to show up. Sit with the truth of this verse and let it reorient anything in your walk with Jesus that is based on performance: Christ died for you while you were still a sinner.
