Righteous Outside the Garden

Abel’s offering was received because Abel came in faith. Genesis 4:4 says that Abel brought “the firstborn of his flock and of their fat,” and the Lord received Abel and his offering. Hebrews tells us what was happening beneath the surface: “By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain.” The issue was not just the offering in his hands. It was the faith in his heart.
Righteousness was found outside the garden. That is what makes Abel’s story so staggering. He was a son of Adam, born into a world already marked by sin and death, never knowing Eden, never walking with God in the cool of the day. And yet Scripture calls him righteous. Abel’s family history did not disqualify him from receiving righteousness by faith.
Abel’s blood still speaks because his faith pointed beyond himself.
While the blood of Abel’s lamb was not the final solution for sin, it was a prophetic shadow pointing forward to Christ. This is one of the reasons Abel’s blood “still speaks.” It declares a gospel that says sinners are not made righteous by family lineage, self-effort, or religious performance, but by trusting in the sacrifice God Himself provides."Faith is the gaze of a soul upon a saving God.” - A.W. Ask yourself:
Where am I still trying to bring God something impressive instead of coming to Him in faith?
Abel had no perfect family line to stand on. He simply came to God in faith, and God received him as righteous. So this week, do the same: Trust that the sacrifice God has provided is sufficient to bring you near. Righteousness isn’t earned by anything you do; it is received by faith in Christ and what He has done.
